Just three New York Rangers prospects on Friday evening as most of the prospects are on their holiday break. Once again Nathan Aspinall continues to add to his breakout season.

Aspinall had a goal as his Flint Firebirds defeated the Kitchener Rangers 4-1 in OHL play. The Flint captain scored the Firebirds third goal of the game as he poked a rebound into the Kitchener net.

Guess when you are on a hot streak just about anything you send towards the net is going to go in. In this case, Flint took the second period faceoff into the Kitchener defensive zone, Luka Graziano fired a shot that rebounded right to Aspinall.

It wasn’t even a legit shot on goal, more like Aspinall shoved the puck towards the net and it went in.

The goal was Aspinall’s 22nd of the season which is second best in the OHL. It was an even strength goal coming just 12 seconds into the second perid.

For the Firebirds captain is that it is his fifth goal in his last three games and he is 14-14-28 in his last 13 games. The goal also set a new career best in points as he is now 22-26-48.

Aspinall leads the OHL in points, is second in goals (22), fifth in assists (26), and first in first goals (7).

Artem Gonchar (Sudbury Wolves)

Artem Gonchar had a goal but his Sudbury Wolves needed the shootout before edging the Owen Sound Attack 7-6 in OHL play. This was a wild game with all the goal scoring coming in the first two periods.

Sudbury would fall behind at one point 6-2 before scoring four unanswered goals to tie the game up. Gonchar fired a shot from the point that deflect off an Attack player into the net.

For Gonchar the goal was his eight of the season. He has been on a hot streak as the point was his 15th in his last 12 games. After a rough start to his OHL career, Gonchar is now 8-10-18 in 28 games.

E. J. Emery was scoreless as his sixth-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks defeated Omaha 4-1 in NCHC play. Emery’s only stat was a minor for “unsportsmanlike conduct”.

The sophomore defender has gone six games without a point and 14 games without a goal. North Dakota’s win was their sixth straight and 10th in their last 11 games.
